Sanderson Farms
Sanderson Farms (SAFM): Chicken stock with about a billion dollars in sales. In a commodity business for better or worse. Lately, it’s been for the better; Sanderson Farms has benefited from a chicken boom, along with competitors like Pilgrim’s Pride (PPC).
On January 5th 2006, I suggested investors interested in chicken stocks look at Sanderson Farms before looking at Pilgrim’s Pride.
Value Discipline has three good posts on Sanderson Farms: a December 5th, 2005 post about SAFM in particular, a January 5th, 2006 post about Sanderson Farms, Pilgrim’s Pride, and leg quarter prices, and a January 7th, 2006 post comparing Sanderson Farms and Pilgrim’s Pride. This last one (entitled "Oh no..not chicken again!") is the best post on these two companies I’ve seen; it’s a must read.
Also on January 5th, 2006, Shai Dardashti listed Sanderson Farms as a stock that’s caught his attention (remember to read what Shai wrote in response to comments as well).
